Well, my brother's an avid filesharer and uploader, so you might not see me online anymore in a while. Why? A number of sneaky amendments to the European Law on Electronic Communications, which would allow and require telecom companies to monitor and regulate your internet usage, and give them the right to install their spyware and that of record companies on your computer... As well as the right to pull the plug on you.

From the centripetal intergovernmental organisation that brought you the European Declaration of Human Rights, this kind of thing ought to be impossible. But this is right before the parliamentary recess, your representatives are likely lethargic, and media conglomerates are keeping their fingers crossed and hoping nobody notices.

If you're a European and you want to help make a difference, bring it to the attention of your representatives, especially if they're on IMCO. But hurry - the vote's scheduled for tomorrow.
